Egg cartons are made from recycled, low grade paper and cardboard which is great for composting. Recycled paper and cardboard is pulped and moulded to form egg cartons. Egg cartons help to absorb moisture and smells in the green bin. They also provide a good source of carbon which is an important component of good compost.
Use egg cartons to line the bottom of your green bin to prevent food and garden organics sticking to the bottom of the bin.
If you ever get home and realise that one of the eggs has cracked inside the carton, then the cracked egg and shell can also go in the green bin.
